Steeped in history, the original Glenmalure Lodge, built as a hunting lodge in 1801, was known as Wiseman's Inn. The walls of the cosy bar area are hung with a fascinating collection of old photographs, maps, articles and other interesting memorabilia, many of which pay homage to the area's rich an colourful history.

Extensive renovations have been undertaken in recent years and all fourteen bedrooms now have en suite bathrooms. The bar area offers a wide choice of tasty, home-prepared food throughout the day and well into the evening. At week-ends there are usually lively music sessions for all to enjoy.

The inn is an extremely popular destination for walkers, being located both on the Wicklow Way and also in the midst of a wonderful selection of peaks, including Lugnaquillia -at 925m the highest mountain in Wicklow. Long distance trekkers experienced in mountain navigation will be well rewarded by the many possibilities for one-day walks within and above the wonderful Glenmalure valley. However, for those tackling Lugnaquillia and the other high peaks caution cannot be over-stressed for it is by no coincidence that Glenmalure Lodge acts as a Mountain Rescue base for the area!
